On Sunday 21 March at 2.30pm St Stephen’s Uniting Church, 197 Macquarie Street, Sydney will conduct John Stainer’s The Crucifixionplus works by Bach, Schutz, Sweelinck and d”Anglebert. The concert will be performed by The Cathedral Singers, The St Stephen’s Choir. Tickets are $20 and $15 concession and will be available at the door on the day. Entry includes afternoon tea after the performance.

The National Christian Youth Convention (NCYC) is a national youth event held every two years by the Uniting Church. We’re now less than 12 months away from ncyc11, which will be held on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 29 December 2010 – 4 January 2011. NCYC11 encourages young people aged 16-25 to turn up their faith and tune into God with times of community, Bible study, worship, speakers, bands and electives. Canberra CES Forum on Poverty and Affluence

The Canberra CES theme for the year will be introduced by speakers addressing theological perspectives of Poverty and Affluence. The key speaker will be Frank Brennan AO. Father Frank is a Jesuit priest, a Professor of Law at the Australian Catholic University and Visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of New South Wales. He was the founding Director of the Uniya Jesuit Social Justice Centre in Sydney; has written extensively on aboriginal land rights and, in 1995, he was awarded an Order of Australia for his services to Indigenous Australians. In 1998, he was named a Living National Treasure, during his involvement in the Wik Debate. Father Frank is a committed advocate for human rights, having worked tirelessly for others for over 30 years and has won a number of human rights awards. Palm Sunday Witness for Peace

This year the NSW Ecumenical Council is again supporting public witness and prayer for peace on Palm Sunday. The main event will be at Parramatta Town Square at 2.30 pm on Sunday 28 March (including a Christian liturgy, speakers on peace, and input from other religious groups). Do come along if you can, or pray for peace in your own church and/or area! We hope that the Exodus Choir will again sing this year. Synod Festival Night

Amy Davies, Organiser, Synod Festival Night, is organising a festival night celebrating our Synod, as an associated event with the up coming Synod meeting in April, http://nsw.uca.org.au/synodmeeting/downloads/synodfestivalflyer.pdf

Amy’s looking to have input and expressions from as many different people in the synod as possible. As part of the service there will be a prayer time of thanksgiving and intercession for the Synod, it’s work and it’s people. I want this to be a slide show of images from around the synod with prayers from the areas the photos are from.

If you’re interested in getting involved in this here’s what you need to do:

Can you please pick 1 or 2 photos from your church or community area, things that show activities of your group, things you’re joyful and thankful for, or issues from your specific area that you feel need prayer. 9The photos need to be quite good resolution as they will be projected onto a big screen).

With the photos in mind can you write a short prayer (2 or 3 lines) to be read out along with showing the photos. If english is not the main language spoken in your congregation please fell free to write your prayer in your own language. And if you can have someone who is coming along to the festival night who can read it out that would be great, otherwise I can put the text up on the screen with the photos.

Please send both your photos and your prayer to me at amydee3@hotmail.com, before the Easter long weekend, so I have time to put it all together. If you know there is going to be someone from your congregation coming to the festival who would like to read your prayer please let me know. I will find people to read out prayers from people who can’t come to the service.
