Sydney Presbytery has a number of committees, filled by volunteers from within the presbytery, to assist the presbytery in fulfilling its function to support the congregations and ministers within its bounds.
Role: To undertake the business of Presbytery between ordinary meetings; to oversight to the other committees of the presbytery.
Role: The Committee is responsible for the exercise of the ministry of the Presbytery in the provision of pastoral care and oversight for congregations which are part of the Presbytery and for ministers who are members of the Presbytery or otherwise placed under its pastoral oversight. (As set out in regulation 3.4.38)
Business and Property Committee
Role: To advise and assist Church Councils in understanding legal requirements and the requirements of the Uniting Church in relation to administration of their properties and finances. To encourage Congregations to maximise the use of their property and financial resources for the purposes of ministry.
Role: The role of the Mission & Strategy Committee to develop, update as necessary, and monitor the progress of projects arising from the Presbytery’s Mission Plan.
Tertiary Resource and Oversight Committee
Role: to give strong direction to Tertiary Chaplaincy Team in Sydney Presbytery. So that the chaplaincy team can live out the Tertiary Ministry’s mission statement “Keeping Faith, Doing Justice, Building Community” in the Tertiary Institutions and Congregations of Sydney Presbytery.
Role: Oversee and the Life and Witness Consultations between Congregations and the Presbytery. The purpose of the consultation shall be to strengthen the life and witness of the Congregation, to assess future ministerial and lay leadership needs, and to review the records of the Congregation.
Role: Building the cross-cultural capacity of the Presbytery to enable the Presbytery to be safe for and inclusive of all ethnic cultures contained in Presbytery congregations and related communities.
Role: Ministry Committee is responsible for the selection, pastoral care and oversight of candidates for the specified ministries and those undertaking Periods of Discernment.
